THE VOTE Is David Nugent ready for an England call-up?

NugentMany of this morning's newspapers are reporting that Preston North End striker David Nugent is to be called up to the England squad to face Israel and Andorra later this month. The 21-year-old has been named in the under-21 squad to face Italy at Wembley, but he is expected to be promoted to the senior squad when Steve McClaren announces his squad tomorrow. Is the young forward ready to make the step up to international football, Pies fans?

I think it's more a question of, are England ready for the fact that they only have 5 strikers to choose from in the so-called "best league in the world"? It's pretty depressing to think that beyond Crouchinho we're into the Championship.

We need players who are confident right now to qualify. While Isreal and co are decent teams we should beat them. However the mentality of the regular first team is such that they could crumble under the pressure. Throw in some hungry noobs who and we can reverse the giant killing pyscology in this situation.

I like the look of him. God, he's older than Messi and about the same age as C Ronaldo (not saying he's that good though), so we shouldn't think 'Oh, he's too young'. Let's try him out.

He's good, and sticking him in the Squad can't hurt, might shake things up a bit and maybe bring him off the bench. He's certainly better than Andy Johnson IMHO.

But why is this happening now? Isn't this what friendlies are for; try some new tactics and blood a couple of youngsters.

Nope, apparently they're for trying to see if Phil Neville is any use if he's played on the side of his wrong foot.

Oh, and expect Titus Bramble and Steven Taylor to get a call up as well following tonight's fabulous performance versus AZ. MacClueless must be gasping for breath at the bare thought of so much mediocrity in the squad.

Defo! Remember how many goals Steve Bull scored from outside the top flight? There's precedent. And Nuge is an amazing player, who will be in the Prem next year, maybe with Preston, maybe not.
