Coup de Boule: Zidane headbutt song tops the French music charts

The French, it seems, wait until after the World Cup to put out the football-related DIY ditties. Three previously unknown jingle writers are topping France's charts with Coup de Boule (Headbutt), which unsurprisingly is about Zinedine Zidane's World Cup final antics. The song has sold 150,000 copies, and a further 100,000 have been downloaded.

Sealions On My Shirt

A pair of factory workers from Rochdale who do not share our love of the beautiful game have recorded this anti-World Cup song. Apparently the idea for the song came from a misheard phone message which nearly resulted in England World Cup merchandise featuring sealions rather than Three Lions!

Stuck In The Middle With Roo by 4-5-1 available to download from iTunes now

Stuck_in_the_middle_with_roo_2If you thought Wayne Rooney's metatarsal injury was of little consequence outside the football world, think again. We reported on 29 April that 4-5-1 had been given a record deal to release their single Stuck In The Middle With Roo. The deal was soon off though because later that day Rooney picked up his injury against Chelsea and seemed to be out of the World Cup.

Stuck In The Middle With Roo by 4-5-1 available to download from iTunes now cont…

His surprise comeback against Trinidad and Tobago means the track is now available to download from iTunes. It seems the metatarsal injury has dashed 4-5-1's hopes of pop stardom rather than Rooney's World Cup dreams. Singer Ben Fielding said: "Due to Rooney's injury a physical release didn't happen. We are still trying to get a late release, but it is unlikely now."

Budge up on the bandwagon it's Head The Ball with Think of England

Head_the_ballThe latest band to jump the World Cup song bandwagon is Head The Ball. The band hails from Stoke-on-Trent. The forces of the city's most famous sons - Robbie Williams and Sir Stanley Matthews - have obviously combined to create this football-music fusion. I very much doubt they are set for such stardom, but you can listen to their song Think of England free of charge here and download it if you wish.

Picture_6_6 That's right, pop pickers, Tesco's download website is offering The Tonedef AllStars' Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Jurgen Klinsmann for a bargain 20p (!!!), making it the UK's cheapest ever download (not counting all the free ones, of course).
